Spencer serandes Singing Francine

CALYPSO ICON SINGING Francine was warmly welcomed to Barbados on Wednesday evening by the strains of local Calypsonian Colin Spencer.

The Barbadian born Francine who resides in Trinidad is here for a weekend performance with the Cave Shepherd All Stars at Solidarity House, starting at 8:30 pm.

Spencer who strummed Francine’s signature tune Run Away was joined by her in the chorus much to the delight of the onlookers in the arrival hall of the Grantley Adams International Airport.

A seemingly weary Francine who has been intensely touring North America and the Caribbean was also greeted by her daughter, grand-children and a nephew. She was whisked away to her south coast hotel where she’s expected to rest over the next few days in preparation for a dynamic performance on Friday and Saturday night.

Francine, real name Francine Edwards is a legend and one of the few consistent, female calypsonians period, she is known for serious social commentary on issues affecting women like the hit Child Molesters.

Last week Singing Sandra of the now defunct United Sisters of which Francine was a member, graced the Solidarity House stage as the tent’s guest performer.
